Page’s Story

After 5 hard years of therapy I decided to attend one of those tear-you down, build-you -back-up weekend retreats at the urging of my wife of 28 years. We’d been drifting farther and farther apart. Not fighting, not angry, just distant and detached. We’d talked about separating.

When I took my seat in the group of 12 women and four men at the “More To Life Weekend” I noticed a super attractive, silver-haired woman on the other side of the room. The workshop process was raw and painful for me and, at one point in a guided meditation, I saw myself alone, which was both shocking and a bit liberating.

The workshop process was raw and painful for me and, at one point in a guided meditation, I saw myself alone, which was both shocking and a bit liberating.

During the breaks I managed to find a way to talk to the woman with the torn jeans and dazzling smile. She claimed to remember me from 30 years previous, when she waited on me in a local restaurant.

Over the course of a grueling but therapeutic 48 hours, I came to the realization that, in fact, there was more to life awaiting me. I just had to find the courage to take the step.

By that time, I had managed to spend some time in deep conversation with Sheri, and was drawn to her depth and boundless joy.

…I came to the realization that, in fact, there was more to life awaiting me. I just had to find the courage to take the step.

I separated about a month later and, over the ensuing months, became close and closer friends with Sheri. I still had a long road of separation and divorce ahead of me but Sheri was unfailingly supportive.

When it became clear that my marriage was over, Sheri and I started seeing each other.  After several break-ups (it’s too soon!), we got back together and the last 10 years have been better than I could have ever imagined.

Sheri fills every day with beauty and joy and I think she’s brought out a deeper, more open version of me that I like. Who could have known that a last-ditch weekend workshop would lead me to the love of my life?

From Page: I was born and raised in Denver, college in Vermont (Middlebury) U of Denver MBA: I worked in CO ski industry then moved to Montana in 1981 where I worked as fishing guide/outfitter for 5 years prior to getting a real job as Financial Advisor for DA Davidson for 36 years. I retired in 2020.

Chris’ Note: I was lucky enough to meet and spend time with Page and his super attractive, silver-haired gem of a wife, Sheri in Guanajuato, Mexico in the Spring of 2024. The first time I met him, he came bounding into our Spanish-language classroom at the very end of class and began talking and participating immediately. I was like, “Who is this guy?” He didn’t realize, until a couple minutes later when the teacher announced the session was over, that he was actually early for his class, the following one in that room. Page and Sheri and I absolutely hit it off from the jump and have maintained a growing friendship ever since.
